Continental ContiSportContact 5P Review — Performance OEM Replacement for NZ Sports Cars

Overall Rating: 9.1 / 10

Category: Ultra High Performance Summer

Price in NZ: From $524 (passenger), from $668 (SUV)

Best for: Porsche 911, BMW M3/M5, Mercedes AMG, Audi R8 — OEM replacement for 2015–2022 vehicles

Quick Verdict

The Continental ContiSportContact 5P was Continental’s UHP flagship before the SportContact 6 and 7 generation. It remains in production in NZ for drivers of premium vehicles specified with 5P OEM fitment — particularly Porsche 911 and BMW M-series from 2015–2022. Using Continental’s first-generation BlackChili compound technology, the 5P delivered class-leading dry and wet performance in its era and remains an excellent tyre for OEM-match replacement.

Performance Profile

For OEM replacement: The 5P’s primary value is maintaining factory handling calibration. Porsche and BMW engineers calibrated their suspension settings around the 5P’s specific characteristics. Replacing with the newer SportContact 7 changes the handling feel (the SC7 is a different tyre, not simply better in every dimension).

Wet safety: EU Label A — Continental’s BlackChili compound delivers strong wet grip in the 5P formulation.

Dry performance: Class-leading in its era — still very strong, though the SportContact 6 and 7 have advanced the benchmark since.

NZ Road Conditions Assessment

Auckland: Excellent for OEM-match replacement. Porsche 911 and BMW M4 owners with 5P OEM fitment should specify the 5P for factory handling maintenance.
